창세기 21장 이스마엘 떠나보내기

약속이 성취되었다. 백세에 아들이 태어났고, 아브라함은 하나님이 알려주신대로 이삭이라 이름 짓고 할례를 행한다. 사라의 기쁨과 별도로 이삭의 감동적인 반응이 기록되지 않은 것은 의아하다. 전문맥으로 봐서 아브라함은 아직 블래셋 땅 그랄에서 멀지 않은 곳에 거주하고 있다. (브엘세바) 무슨 이유였을까. 단순히 목축을 위한 현실적 필요 때문이었을까.

아브라함은 화를 낸다. 이스마엘과 하갈을 내쫓으려는 사래의 요구 때문이었다. 결혼생활이 위태했던 것 같다. 이스마엘을 여전히 아들로 아꼈던 것 같다. 더 사랑했을 수도 있다. 세월이 14년 이제는 못해도 17,8년이면. 이삭이 젖을 뗄 때면 3-4년은 그렇게 지난 것 같다. 하나님은 아브라함으로 하여금 이스마엘을 떠나 보내게 하신다. 그리고 광야에서 하갈과 그의 아들을 돌보신다.

아비멜렉이 다시 등장한다. 우물에 대한 언약을 맺는다. 브엘세바라는 지명이 이제 나타난다. 지금도 네겝의 수도격 도시이다. 아브라함은 그렇게 블레셋 땅에 오래 머물렀다.

하나님은 쉽게 실망하거나 포기하지 않으시고 오래 기다리신다. 아브라함의 인생을 보며 깨닫는 진리이다. 우리를 기다리신다. 하지만 제 인생은 175년이 되지 않습니다. 하나님 마음에 합한 자로 빚으소서.

“And Abraham named their son Isaac. Eight days after Isaac was born, Abraham circumcised him as God had commanded. Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born.”

The Lord kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised. She became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age. This happened at just the time God had said it would.

Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born. And Sarah declared, “God has brought me laughter. All who hear about this will laugh with me.

But God told Abraham, “Do not be upset over the boy and your servant. Do whatever Sarah tells you, for Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.

Then God opened Hagar’s eyes, and she saw a well full of water. She quickly filled her water container and gave the boy a drink.

About this time, Abimelech came with Phicol, his army commander, to visit Abraham. “God is obviously with you, helping you in everything you do,” Abimelech said.

Abraham replied, “Please accept these seven lambs to show your agreement that I dug this well.” Then he named the place Beersheba (which means “well of the oath”), because that was where they had sworn the oath.

Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he worshiped the Lord, the Eternal God. And Abraham lived as a foreigner in Philistine country for a long time.”
